What does the Merging from left sign mean?

Warns that traffic from the left will join your road ahead. Be ready for vehicles moving into your lane.

What it means

Another road or slip road joins yours from the left ahead, and its traffic will merge with yours.

The angled line joining from the left shows traffic merging, not a junction where it has to stop.

Check your mirrors and adjust your speed, or move to another lane if it is safe, to let joining traffic in.

Where you'll see it

Before slip roads and other roads that join at a shallow angle, often on dual carriageways.

Rules to know

Common mistakes

  • Mistake: Treating it as an ordinary side road.

Instead: Merging traffic joins at speed and needs room to move into your lane. Be ready to adjust your speed.
