Park and Ride sign
What does the Park and Ride sign mean?
Directs you to a Park and Ride car park, where you leave your car and take a bus or other transport into town.
What it means
The direction to a car park linked to a public transport service into a town or city.
The P shows the car park and the bus shows the service that runs from it. The bus can be replaced by a tram, train or Underground symbol.
Signs may also show the name of the site, the place it serves and its times of operation.
Where you'll see it
On main roads leading into towns and cities with Park and Ride schemes.
Rules to know
Signs may show the location of parking places linked to 'Park and Ride' schemes. The bus symbol may be changed to another form of transport, such as tram, national railway or London Underground.

Common mistakes
Mistake: Assuming the car park is open at all hours.
Instead: Park and Ride sites have operating times, often shown on the signs. Check before you leave your car.
