What does the No road markings sign mean?

Warns that there are no road markings for the distance shown, often after resurfacing. Take extra care.

Also known as: No road markings for 2 miles

What it means

Road markings are temporarily missing for the distance shown.

Without centre lines, lane markings or give way lines, it is harder to judge where to position your vehicle.

Keep to the left, take extra care at junctions, and do not assume other drivers know who has priority.

Where you'll see it

After resurfacing, before the road markings have been repainted.

Rules to know

Common mistakes

  • Mistake: Assuming normal priorities without the markings.

Instead: Give way lines may be missing too. Approach junctions slowly and be ready to give way.
